Owl Hoot Trail

Owl Hoot Trail is a Wild West fantasy game where you can play an upright lawman bringing justice, a dastardly scoundrel robbing a bank, a feral scout on the trail of an owlbear, a mysterious mentalist looking into the darkness of an alien mind, or a gunslinger ready to take on any threat, be it man, beast, or undead. It’s set in a mythic version of the Wild West, and can as easily be seen as the future of a classic fantasy setting or the fantastic version of the historical American West.

The rules are simple and familiar if you’ve played classic fantasy RPGs, but they’ve got cowboy grit. Bullets can kill as easily as a dragon’s claws, and traveling unprepared in the desert is as dangerous as any dungeon.

I hope you’re being ironic. I can think 2 mildly successful attempts at a fantasy western (Steven King’s Dark Tower & the Wild Arms video game series) and while I know there have been a few others, I hardly think it’s overdone. Not nearly as overdone as the standard fantasy settings or fantasy Asia.

I’ve always wanted a perfect fantasy/western. I’m looking forward to this!

Personally, I’m thinking, “man, this game is fun.” It reminds me of everything I loved about Boot Hill. One thing is worth mentioning: this is more a spaghetti western with fantasy elements, than it is D&D with guns. Very different feel, very different play despite some familiar mechanics. If you’re curious, playtest it and see what you think.

I’m biased, mind you; I developed the game and wrote the first adventure. That said, I did so *after* I read the rules because I liked them so much.
